With John Thain at the helm, CIT Group is cleaning up its balance sheet and repositioning itself to do what it does best: lend to small and midsize companies. "This is a story of a company in the right place at the right time," said Sean Egan, co-founder of Egan-Jones Rating. "They're right in the middle market, which needs capital at the same time the big banks seem to be pulling away."
