The adoption of national education standards could mean the end of literature instruction in Massachusetts schools, warn Charles Chieppo and Jamie Gass, both with the Center for School Reform at Pioneer Institute. Literature -- including the classics -- has been a focus of the state's English curriculum but will not be emphasized under the new standards, they argue.
