Crystalline silicon is preferred over thin-film PV technologies

Crystalline silicon-based solar cells are becoming preferred to thin-film technologies in photovoltaic solar panels for a variety of reasons, including pricing and product reliability, writes Paula Mints, principal analyst in the PV services program at Navigant Consulting. A number of conditions, including the weakening global economy and political controversy over failed solar cell companies in the U.S., could spell adversity for all solar manufacturers in 2012, according to Mints.
