BASF, SGL to develop advanced polyamide for CF composite production

BASF and SGL Group are looking to co-develop a carbon-fiber-based composite material for thermoplastic resin transfer molding and reactive injection-molding processes. "To achieve good wetting of the fiber and short cycle times in T-RTM or reactive injection molding, we start from low-viscosity highly reactive caprolactam formulations," said Martin Jung, who leads BASF's structural materials research unit.
