Researchers say prevention is needed as study links CAD, diabetes

An Austrian study found 21.1% of 506 coronary artery disease patients developed new-onset diabetes in less than eight years. The study, presented at a diabetes conference, also found 26.4% of patients with severe heart disease developed diabetes, and researchers said "repeated diabetes screening" and targeted prevention programs are needed.
