Valorie Crooks, a health geographer at Simon Fraser University in Canada, has recently received an eight-year salary award to conduct research about medical tourism. Crooks' study is designed to collect information about the subject rather than to develop definitive answers to all of the complicated questions it raises, she said. "I can fully appreciate why people ask me, 'Is medical tourism right or wrong, is it good or bad?' and the thing is, it's a very complex practice," Crooks noted.
