Experts: Policymakers need to understand shift in U.S. energy position

Technological advancements in drilling have strengthened the country's energy position, but policymakers and the general public have yet to acknowledge the impact of such change on foreign policy options, experts say. "We have a very different view of the U.S. energy endowment than we had five years ago," said Daniel Yergin, chairman of IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates. "Yet energy issues are still divisive, starting with the Keystone XL crude oil pipeline."
