Human foregut stem cells show potential in improving transplant therapies

Scientists from the University of Cambridge have created human foregut stem cells by manipulating signal pathways in that area of the gastrointestinal tract. By controlling the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells in the human foregut and inducing them in the endoderm, scientists produced purer foregut stem cells that can be used in organ repair or transplantation, and in treating conditions such as type 1 diabetes or liver disease.
