Navigation device for the blind draws on array of technologies

A new navigation device for the blind draws on GPS but refines that technology with greater accuracy and availability by incorporating cameras, sensors and elements of artificial intelligence and robotics, writes Deanna Pogorelc. Draper Laboratory and Auburn University are collaborating in the development, which also may include dedicated short-range communication devices to collect information from transportation infrastructure.
