Salazar notes harmful effects of government shutdown on U.S. production

U.S. oil and natural gas production could be affected by the federal government shutdown, former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said. An Oct. 16 energy lease sale has already been canceled, and processing of onshore oil and gas permits has also been stopped. "The continued shutdown of the federal government will ultimately affect the government approval of activities in the Gulf of Mexico," Salazar said.
