Study: Look at all-facility readmissions for quality analysis

Health systems seeking to improve quality to reduce readmission rates must consider patients who get care from more than one facility rather than only focusing on readmissions to the same hospital, according to a University of Michigan Health System study presented at an American College of Surgeons conference. "Unless you are a top or bottom performer for readmissions, your same-hospital readmission rate may be very misleading," said study co-author Dr. Andrew Gonzalez.
