Study: Medicare ACOs make headway in 5 markets, linked to consolidation

Researchers at Rand Corp. and Harvard University identified five markets where more than 50% of traditional Medicare beneficiaries received care from a Medicare accountable care organization. The study in the journal Health Affairs found that ACOs were more common in markets with higher levels of physician and hospital consolidation but that Medicare spending was not linked to ACO formation.
