Study: Statin no help with ventilator-associated pneumonia

Mortality rates did not decrease after ICU patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia were given the statin drug simvastatin along with antibiotics, French researchers reported in JAMA. The placebo-controlled study found adding the statin did not affect mortality rates at two weeks or the duration of ventilation or ventilation-free days.
