Taxpayers stymied over government shutdown

The federal shutdown is affecting taxpayers who have pending issues before the Internal Revenue Service, or who have questions about returns due Oct. 15. Some taxpayers who were sent notices about levies and liens just before the shutdown find themselves unable to access funds and no way to resolve it until the federal workforce returns. Other taxpayers are unable to resolve identity theft issues. CPAs are turning to the AICPA for assistance.
