Trading of CDS covering U.S. debt surges

Average daily trading of credit default swaps covering the debt of the U.S. government has jumped in the past week as investors are increasingly concerned that the U.S. might miss a payment. On Wednesday, the cost of CDS on one-year U.S. government debt hit the highest level since July 2011.
