Commentary: Web opens new dimension for TV viewers

Media multitasking is on the rise, as an estimated 7% of U.S. viewers older than 12 watch TV while using their computers, and, according to Hitwise general manager of global research Bill Tancer, this means that categories of programming that offer interactive dimensions have new opportunities to connect with viewers. The two most-popular TV-show Web sites -- according to Hitwise's rankings -- "Deal or No Deal" and "Dancing With the Stars," each offer an interactive element so users can participate in the shows as they air.
