About 400 children with special needs improve their balance, muscle strength and confidence each year at Horses for Healing, a therapeutic riding center near Bentonville, Ark. Lessons are individualized to meet the needs of the participants, who may have any of a range of disabilities, and progress is tracked over six-week sessions. A social worker who helps coordinate the program for a school district says, "Riding out here gives the kids a real feeling of being part of things. It makes them feel included."
