To date, no Alabama court has decided whether electronic bingo is legal in the state, writes Randy Brinson. Even if the state's highest court determined that electronic bingo is illegal, that ruling would not apply to Indian gaming operations that do not have to conform to state laws. Only a statewide referendum could eliminate gambling, he writes. "And if voters legalized bingo, then at least the state could tax, regulate and limit the operation of such gaming," Brinson adds.
