Things are spiraling out of control and they're going to keep on doing so for the foreseeable future, writes Douglas Coupland. New technologies will keep us all off balance, the economy will remain in the doldrums, the weather will be either too hot or too cold and in hindsight the 1990s will start to look more and more appealing. "No silver linings and no lemonade. The elevator only goes down," Coupland warns. "The bright note is that the elevator will, at some point, stop."
