Medicare to cover TearLab's test for dry eye disease

TearLab said doctors using its lab-on-a-chip device to diagnose dry eye disease will be reimbursed by the CMS, effective in January 2011. TearLab still is awaiting its clinical laboratory improvement amendments certificate from the FDA for the osmolarity test, which measures eyes' salt concentration. The CLIA waiver is needed to lift some reimbursement restrictions.
