The cost of an outsize ego

Business leaders have to keep their egos in check if they want to create cultures that encourage workers to be transparent and tell the truth, writes Dana Theus. A recent survey found that four out of five workers had been penalized for telling the truth, with 70% blaming their bosses' swollen egos. So what? you ask. Surveyed companies whose employees were afraid to speak their minds had 5.8% lower shareholder returns than those where people felt safe to share their thoughts.
