GOP eyes oil, gas development to fund transportation projects

Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, wants the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to find $15 billion more for its six-year transportation funding plan. To find the funds, House Republicans are looking at expanding oil and gas developments offshore and on federal lands, according to former Transportation Secretary James Burnley IV. Burnley notes that such a project could be "controversial," but that at least it is "a new idea."
