Cost to repair Fla. nuclear plant could surpass $3.4 billion

Rebuilding the containment center walls at the Crystal River-3 nuclear plant in Florida will cost more than the $1.3 billion originally estimated by Progress Energy Florida and take longer than the 24 to 30 months previously estimated, according to a consultant for PEF's corporate parent. Repair costs could rise past $3.4 billion, and the project could take eight years to complete, the consultant said.
