In a letter to Washington signed by several state hotel associations and major hotel firms, AH&LA urged Congress and President Barack Obama to "reach an immediate agreement to fund the government and establish a degree of economic certainty to allow for continued growth." The letter cited the effects of the shutdown on business at national parks and hotels. AH&LA President and CEO Katherine Lugar released a separate statement calling on lawmakers to end the "inaction" that is hindering the industry's growth. "The administration, House of Representatives and Senate need to act swiftly in the best interests of the entire nation and end this shutdown," Lugar said.
