Data breach compromises patient info in Tenn.

HOPE Family Health in Tennessee has sent a data breach notice to 8,000 patients after an unencrypted laptop was stolen over the summer from the home of an employee who works in its finance department. Compromised data included patient names, birth dates, billing records and Social Security numbers. HOPE Family Health has taken steps to prevent future breaches, including putting all protected patient information on an encrypted server and moving its EHR system to an encrypted server in the cloud.
