FCC shutdown could imperil release of new mobile devices

The Federal Communications Commission's inability to review new smartphones, tablets and other devices that emit radio waves could delay their introduction due to the partial shutdown of the government which parses them for potential interference. The agency is not reviewing any devices, a situation that "could be something that’s a real drag on the digital economy the longer it goes on, Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel said in an interview. Even when the FCC resumes its work, there is the potential for a backlog, especially if the stalemate lingers.
