Group: Eateries face barriers in composting efforts

About 350 North American facilities accept food waste for composting and 25% accept compostable plastic waste, not nearly enough to meet the needs of more than 1 million U.S. restaurants and foodservice operations, said Jeff Clark, director of the National Restaurant Association's Conserve Sustainability Education Program. "You need a composting facility nearby or you're putting money down the drain," he said.
