A recent report from the American Chemistry Council highlights growing interest in gasification technologies, which have the potential to process both mixed waste and the plastic portion of waste. The amount of nonrecycled plastic waste is likely to remain steady unless there are major changes to plastic waste generation or the market for recovered plastics, this article says. "Despite rapid increases in recycling in recent years, a significant amount of energy-rich waste still goes to landfill in this country," said Harvey Gershman, president of Gershman, Brickner & Bratton.
