Patients with long-standing diabetes may still produce insulin

Seventy-three percent of type 1 diabetes patients with median disease duration of 30 years showed detectable C-peptide levels as low as 3.3 pmol/L after a mixed meal, a study in Diabetologia indicated. Researchers also found C-peptide levels in patients with detectable levels either increased or remained stable in response to meals.
