Social Security COLA notice is delayed by U.S. shutdown

People receiving Social Security benefits will have to wait a little longer than usual this year to find out what their cost of living adjustments will be for next year. The shutdown of the federal government means that some of the inflation statistics required to calculate the adjustment won't be available on time. Social Security was scheduled to make the announcement on Oct. 16.
