Spanish speaking students in N.Y. struggle under common core

In New York school districts with large Spanish speaking populations, students are reportedly struggling on exams tied to the Common Core State Standards. While the schools have traditionally posted low scores, this year's marks were particularly poor. During a visit to one magnet school, Education Commissioner John King said there were no easy answers, but he advised educators to "leverage" students' native languages to improve achievement.
