Research in biofortified foods in India may be a decade away from producing anything because of complex regulatory issues, among other factors, according to experts. The head of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-arid Tropics said many issues in plant genetic engineering remain to be resolved, along with developing the biotechnological tools of tissue culture, marker-assisted selection and comparative and functional genomics.
