After-school curriculum offers enrichment, individual attention

Many students at Dardanelle High School in Arkansas look forward to staying after school thanks to a five-year, $540,000 grant. The school offers all students two hours of extended-day programs for academic, artistic and cultural enrichment, including one-on-one time with teachers. "Last week, I helped a student rewrite an essay word-for-word," said one English teacher. "That's something I never have time to do in the regular class period. Even on days when all I do is keep the library open, I still feel like I'm making a difference."
