Tech-optimized house helps people with disabilities

The SmartHome in Boulder, Colo., a group home for people with disabilities who require residential supervision, utilizes the latest in integrated, assistive technology to help its residents achieve more independence. Residents and live-in staff are recognized throughout the house by radio-frequency badges that allow them access to appropriate technology. A spokesman for Imagine!, the company that builds SmartHomes, says the goal is to "identify and test in real-world situations what kinds of technologies can help individuals with developmental disabilities engage in the community."
