Dish chief takes in mountain air during heat of carriage negotiations

Dish Network Chairman-CEO Charlie Ergen is taking time off to hike in the Himalayas while his company is in the midst of retransmission consent talks with Fox Cable Networks, according to BTIG Research analyst Richard Greenfield. Ergen, also because of a vacation, missed Dish's second-quarter earnings call when the company revealed it had lost 19,000 subscribers. "We are surprised [Ergen] is totally disconnected (physically) from tense negotiations affecting his 14 million-plus subscribers," Greenfield wrote. Dish, in a statement, said the CEO provides "guidance on a regular basis," but leaves the negotiations to his executive staff.
