New Marcellus drilling rules clear Pa. environmental board

A proposal to amend policies on well construction and water consumption for natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale has been approved by Pennsylvania's Environmental Quality Board. "In many ways, these rules are long overdue because they are addressing problems we experienced even before the first Marcellus well got here," said John Hanger, head of the state's Department of Environmental Protection. The plan needs to cleared by the Independent Regulatory Review Commission and state legislative panels.
