Official: Pa. ensures environment is protected from Marcellus drillers

Pennsylvania's government has made Marcellus Shale drilling safe for the environment by implementing tough policies, said George Jugovic Jr., a Pittsburgh-based regional director of the state's Department of Environmental Protection. Companies have already drilled about 5,000 wells, he said, adding that there have been no instances "where frac waters were transported directly to groundwater aquifers."
