San Diego studies efficacy of rain barrels in reducing runoff pollution

The San Diego Storm Water Department set up 24 rain barrels in several locations to examine how effective they would be in decreasing water pollution coming from runoff. The agency found that the rain barrels conserved water -- and improved its efficiency by redirecting the runoff away from hardscaping and toward landscaping.
