Strict measures should remain for bariatric surgery for teens

The current rigid measures for teens to qualify for bariatric surgery should be used until more long-term data is gathered on the safety and efficacy of the procedure, Dr. Julie R. Ingelfinger wrote in a commentary in the New England Journal of Medicine. She said the surgery for overweight and obese teens "has caught on, whether 'right' or 'wrong.'"
