BrandChannel's Alicia de Mesa looks past the hype over the "tween" demographic to describe who exactly fits into the category and the extent to which they are responsible for consumer spending. De Mesa notes that, "the economic power of most tweens is dependent on parents and other family adults through allowances and gifts, versus the independent purchasing power of teens through after-school jobs."
