Group claims safety data withheld by breast implant maker

In response to a whistle-blower scientist who once worked for California-based silicone breast implant maker Mentor Corp., the group Public Citizen has written a letter to the FDA asking it to investigate alleged withholding of safety data. Mentor said it has cooperated with the FDA. An FDA spokeswoman said the agency will review the letter from Public Citizen and has yet to grant final marketing approval of either Mentor's implants or those of its competitor, Inamed Corp., which is part of Allergan.
