Building permits for institutional projects rise 20%

Building permits issued for institutional construction projects in August were up 20% from year-ago levels, reports Reed Construction Data. Experts say institutional construction spending for the year will be higher than the 14.8% year-over-year increase reported in a survey conducted at the end of 2008 and beginning of 2009. Planned spending on government buildings is up 40%, while spending on health-care facilities is up 29.7%.
