Cities must reduce carbon emissions, establish green transportation and limit water use in order to curb climate change, according to a report by engineers at the U.K.'s Newcastle University. Cities must also find ways to cope with extreme weather brought on by climate change so they may continue to grow, researchers said. "Good planning is the key," Newcastle engineer Richard Dawson said. "We have shown that land use planning influences how much people travel and how they heat and cool their buildings and hence the CO2 emissions."
