Lawmakers: Aviation user fees could slow NextGen

The two top members of the House aviation subcommittee are warning the administration that any effort to switch from aviation excise taxes to user fees will be a "nonstarter." In a letter to President Barack Obama, Reps. Jerry Costello, D-Ill., and Thomas Petri, R-Wis., note that the House has twice resisted similar efforts to impose user fees, and that another battle would be "a major distraction from the number one priority, the Next Generation Air Transportation System."
