Official: Louisiana gifted program to remain part of special education

Louisiana school officials assured concerned Lafayette Parish parents Monday that gifted programs in the state will remain under the umbrella of special education, protecting programs from possible cuts by individual schools. Some special-education officials had recommended to the state that gifted programs be removed from special education, and parents and students became concerned. Changes to special-education law are expected to be limited to technicalities that will make the law more clear, a state school board member said.
