The National Urban Alliance for Effective Education has launched a program in four districts that incorporates students into professional-development workshops for teachers. The program is an effort to teach students more about how they learn and help teachers recognize the potential in all students. Organizers say teachers' expectations have a significant effect on student achievement. "Honestly, as teachers, we can shut them out of the learning process," one teacher said. "They need to be part of the learning process."
