SEC might tighten circuit breakers for stocks, an official says

James Brigagliano, deputy director of trading and markets at the Securities and Exchange Commission, said the agency "might want a tighter band" for restricting trade movement of a stock or an exchange-traded fund. Speaking at a SIFMA conference, Brigagliano said the SEC might consider restricting trade movement for the circuit-breaker program to 3% or 5% from 10%. The SEC is working with exchanges to develop a system to prevent a repeat of the May 6 "flash crash."
