API helps states understand importance of fracking, shale energy

The American Petroleum Institute holds periodic workshops to help state officials and regulators better understand hydraulic fracturing's role in the development of unconventional oil and natural gas resources, API executives said. Responsible drilling has been strengthened by improved coordination between energy companies, regulators, and environmental and community groups, said Marty Durbin, API's executive vice president of government affairs. Shale energy and fracking are helping transform the country's "energy landscape for the better," Durbin said.
