Advocates seek to raise awareness about foreign language education

Educators, researchers, business leaders and representatives from federal and state governments are seeking ways to improve foreign language education and enhance graduates' opportunities in a global workplace. The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages -- among other groups -- has plans to launch a foreign language awareness campaign in 2014. The campaign will "raise awareness about how important languages are to a young person's future, and that it's good to learn and pursue them," said Martha G. Abbott, executive director of ACTFL.
