Shutdown affects financial regulators unevenly

The shutdown's impact on federal financial regulators has varied widely. Regulators funded through congressional appropriations, such as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, have furloughed most personnel. Other agencies, such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Securities and Exchange Commission, do not get their funding through Congress and are hardly affected by the shutdown.
